A collection of my life

I am extremely satisfied with everything I had the opportunity to learn and test out in this class. Like I had announced in the beginning of the term I like to create YouTube videos for my channel and since I’m just starting out and on the biggest budget known to man, having videos look interactive and engaging is a struggle but something that I always like to incorporate. This class really helped me understand the development of different video mediums and also how to utilize my own materials such as cameras, software and overall surroundings.

This was probably my favorite course of the term and I was really pleased with a lot of the skills I learned, especially with the Adobe software, so I can utilize my own materials to the best of their ability rather than feeling like I am limited to what I only know and can search on the Internet. I think each of the projects had a different result and each had a unique representation of myself and some of my life. In all honesty I’m glad that they became so diverse because it was easier to step into a different realm of thinking of each project so it felt like each final video was it’s own entity but still tied into my life and what I like doing.

GIF Project

This was a really interesting project to work with because I had always been interested in how they were made. The process of creating one made more sense than I had initially realized and coming up with my own idea for a GIF and seeing it come to life was a really fun introduction to this course. My intent for this project was just to showcase a transformation of some kind. In this case I decided to show me getting ready for a night out and the transformation from step 1 to the final look.

I think one of the hardest part of this project was creating the different colored photos for each shoot and exaggerating different color spectrums for each shot so that they would appear to only be one color. Also the very brief image we see of a rainbow bar over my last shot, was actually suppose to be a gif animation as well, where each color would be built up on top of the other then reverse away and the gif would start again. The inspiration for this project was mostly to show what I like to do in my spare time, I like to film makeup and I love photography and video editing, so I felt like this gif encompassed a lot of my own talents into one project, while also having the project be one of the skills.

Dream Video

This project was probably the most artistic of all the projects I worked on this term. I think that was because with dreams it can be vague and subtle or even direct and upfront. I felt like the creativity for this project was showcased the most here, because I had to step out of the box and my normal comfort zone of thinking.

It was also fun to imagine a dream sequence and then have it played out on a screen. While I was not the most keen on the fact that the final cut was so dark in the lighting that it was hard to see, the audience seemed to say that it gave the project a more real and dark/mysterious feel to it. Ultimately I do enjoy the final piece and many of the shots in the project were difficult to catch on film as I saw it in my head, but for the most part I felt I got my idea across.

Performance Project

This was actually a project that was very appreciated to have even been created and also the skills shown to make the video were greatly appreciated. I initially for the course wanted to do some kind of music video, I still don’t know what my fascination is with doing one is, but that was a small mission of mine. This project was a compromise and I wanted to really push myself to incorporate many different elements of my life and my point of view in one project.

I wanted to focus on duality and androgyny, it creates a sense of realness and intellect in my opinion and being able to use one person for two different. I am definitely going to be creating another video like this in the future with even better planning. I loved the idea of this project and I was happy with what the result was, it was just a building block for bigger projects I see in my future of video editing. I feel like this skill of using two videos on top of each will also help in creating more interactive YouTube videos for my channel. This was probably my second favorite project to work on for the course.

Stop-Motion Animation

This was probably my favorite and the most tedious out of all the projects I worked on this term. While I did say I don’t envy stop-motion animators, I do admire their work and their drive to create pieces and even movies that are nothing by this technique. I had watched “Chicken Run” as a kid and grew up on a farm so the movie was my ultimate favorite movie and when it was discussed in class I was instantly interested in the subject and process.

I initially wanted my tools to be moving around and cleaning themselves up, if not spelling things out or painting a picture without any hands holding them, however the work and time frame for such a project didn’t seem logical. I knew that I personally wanted to have one subject in the movie and it was at the last minute that I found a teddy bear, however when I first started drawing up a sketch for this project, in the back of my mind there had been a teddy bear as the star the whole time which I thought was funny in the end.
